[[Shahfiyana`s]] Reflection

Before we when there, our group members have done all lot of research and preparation. We even find the side map of Fort Siloso. Our groups were confident on the task that we are given. We even do our storyboard. At there, we saw POW chambers which is cool. We learned all lot of thing at the Fort Siloso. We learned different types of gun that used during the war. We also learned there are in different sizes, the purpose and what is it used for. My groups were very comfortable there because we were well prepared before hand.After the field trip,we felt relaxing because this projects had ended and satisfied with our work that we have done so far.

We done allot of research and we even find the side map of it and i felt confident on the project we do ...

At there
I felt it very comfortable while taking video as it seem to me that i have came here before but it is thought the Internet and every of our plan goes well with our planing before hand.

After the Trip
We felt fun and it is relaxing to us as we planned it very carefully hence i felt that planing is very important.

Reflection ( Caiyi )

We were all prepared for the trip. The storyboard, interview questions, script we have done were all done and ready. Zhimin and Shaowei each bring along a camera as they are the photographer. Wilson, in the other hand was the one in charge of handing the video camera. When we reached there, we followed the tour guide. She brought us to different places and told us the history behind it. We found out that there were not enough pictures and information regarding Elizabeth Choy but still we worked together as a team and help one another out. Then, when the tour guide told us that we can go any places where we need to take pictures for our research, we split up. However, we did not go too far from one another so that we would not lose each other. Atiqah and I took pictures that were required for our research. Zhimin and Wilson handled the video camera. Zhimin asked the tour guide a lot of questions regarding Elizabeth Choy while Wilson took video of it. Murshid acted as the interviewee. He had a hard time memorising the script. But he put in a lot of effort to memorise the script in the nick of time. It was an enjoyable trip as I learned a lot more about history and knowledge and information that are not taught in the history textbook and what I enjoyed the most is the way we cooperated with one another. We really worked as a team well.

Reflection and summary on fort siloso,shao wei

Before the trip, we went to several website to gather information on Elizabeth choy, her life, her birth, her death and her accomplishment and why was she honoured as a brave heroine. At fort siloso we interviewed the tour guide and ask for her opinion on Elizabeth choy. Elizabeth choy was born in Sabah in 1910, but moved to Singapore in 1929 to further her studies. She
became a teacher to support her siblings when her mother passed away. During the postwar period she was also a politician, teacher and founder of a school for the blind. She provided the troops with daily necessities. She was then captured as a POW(Prisoner Of War) and suffered in a harsh environment. We experienced it as we entered the hot and stuffy POW station at fort siloso. wilson and zhimin both took good pictures and videos(interview) regarding to the war and Elizabeth at fort siloso, even though not everything went well we still mange to produce quality work.

Overall, Elizabeth choy is a loyal, kind and definitely a person who can endure hardship. For that, she is worthy of our respect, we should strive to be attain her never say die attitude.

My Reflection At Fort Siloso [[atiqah]]

All that was planned for the trip, worked according to plan.Problems that we faced was solved on the spot. Weather was also perfect as it was not too hot and too cold and thankfully it did not rain.Even though we had not enough information about Elizabeth Choy there, we managed to find the POW chamber.We got to interview the busy tour guide.We interviewed her directly right after she stopped talking so as to not miss the chance. The first problem that we faced is that Cai Yi cannot seemed to memorize the questions. Since Zhi Min can memorize the questions and willing to help, we took her as the interviewer and Cai Yi as the photographer.I helped Cai Yi direct and plan the angle and the pictures that had to be taken. The second problem that we faced is that we cannot find people to answer our questions,as they were to shy to do so. So we took Murshid,one of our group member, as one of the interviewees. Shao Wei and Shahfiyana helped Wilson in directing the places and objects that had to be in the video.

Early life
Elizabeth was born in Kudat in British North Borneo (today Sabah). Her great-grandparents had been assisting German missionaries in Hongkong and their work had brought them to North Borneo. There, the Yong family set up a coconut plantation. Her father had been the eldest in a family of 11 children and after completing his early education in China with some English education in North Borneo, he gained employment as a civil servant. Marrying the daughter of a priest from a well-respected family in North Borneo, he was transferred to Jesselton and later promoted to District Officer and moved on to Borneo's interiors in Kalimantan. Elizabeth was looked after by a Kadazan nanny and acquired Kadazan as her first language.
Education
Later, Elizabeth's father was posted to Tenom where there were no educational facilities, so Elizabeth and her siblings were sent back to Kudat where her paternal grandfather ran the village school, teaching in Chinese. Her higher education was taken at St Monica's School between 1921 to 1929, an Anglican missionary boarding school in Sandakan. Because the teachers could not pronounce Chinese names, she adopted the English name Elizabeth. In 1925, she and her aunt Jessie became the first girls to sign up in North Borneo's inaugural Girl Guides Company. By 1927, she was teaching the lower standards even whilst she was studying.In December 1929, she came to Singapore to further her studies at the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus at Victoria Street. She shone academically, obtaining the Prize of Honor in her first year of school in December 1930. She resided with her fourth uncle at Selegie where he ran a music shop, the original T. M. A. at High Street. The untimely death of her mother in 1931 and the onset of the Great Depression placed upon her the burden of raising her six younger siblings. Thus she forwent a college education, even a possible scholarship, to start work so she could finance the education of her younger siblings

My Reflection On Fort Siloso

The entrance to Fort Siloso was wonderful. There was a cannon placed in front on the entrance. Then, my tour guide told me how Fort Siloso got its name. In Philippines, Siloso means a jealous person. The name for Fort Siloso is actually Fort Siliso.The Americans at that time did not know how to pronounce Siliso so they pronounced it as siloso and that is how Fort Siloso got its name.

We went in the Prisoners Of Wars chamber. It was quite exciting inside. The chamber showed us past prisoners and my guide elaborated about the prisoners.

Zhi Min also took an interview with me. She asked me about Elizabeth Choy and her past life. My most favourite place was the place where there was sculptures of the Japanese army and the British army. I liked the part where the Japanese leader and the British leader was having a meeting. They looked exactly the same as the one i looked at my History textbook.

My job at Fort Siloso was to look for suitable places to take picture or have an interview. I must also memorise the script and my answers for the interview. Wilson was our videographer and he took quite good videos. Zhi Min was our photographer and she also took nice and great pictures.

The difficulties we faced during our trip was when we could not find a nice background for our interview. However, we overcame it when we saw a river near Fort Siloso and we immediately and the the the weather was also good for our interview. Finally, we took some pictures and went back to school. I really enjoyed it and would really like to go to Fort Siloso again if I has a chance.

My Reflection On Fort Siloso

My Experience In Fort Siloso..

I had a wonderful time in fort siloso with my friends. I learned about the history of Singapore and at the same time have fun. Our tour guide was great.She explained very clearly about the heroes and war. My favourite time was at the sculptures chamber. There are different sculptures that portray ifferent scenes. For example when the generals were having a important meeting and sculptures of prisoners being torture. They all looked very real. My job was to write the script for my group. We are doing on Heroes. Our Hero was Elizabeth Choy. Our group did faced some difficulties in finding a location to take our interview as there was a slight drizzle outside. We overcome our difficulty when we found the perfect location. It had a nice view as a background. I hope there will be another outing for us.

Reflection [Zhi Min]

The time at Fort Siloso everyone is already appointed with a duty. Everything went quite smoothly at there.
During the trip, we were able to interview the tour guide and know more about Elizabeth Choy. Throughout the interview we get to know Elizabeth Choy contributions to the society and her life after the war. This is when I realise that we had found the wrong information on the internet. Her contribution during world war 2 is that she provide food,medicine and stuffs for the prisoners and not that she supplied information to the British. This is when we get a chance to see the guns used by the Japanese and British during war 2. Caiyi and I also took alot of photographs.
