1. 'Walter looked as if he had been raised on fish food: his eyes, as blue as Dill Harris's, were red- rimmed and watery. There was no colour in his face except at the tip of his nose, which was moistly pink. He fingered the straps of his overalls, nervously picking at the metal hooks.' What is this passage trying to tell us ?
Answer :
He was about to cry as his eyes were red and watery. I think that he was being bullied as he was feeling nervous. We know that Walter is a timid person.
2. Do you think it is right for Walter to stay out to help his father and as a result he cannot pass his first grade?
Answer:
I think that studies should come first. Walter can still help his father out during the holidays. Parents tend to hope that children can focus on their studies first than to helping them out. But however, Walter's father asked Walter to help him out instead of asking him to focus on his studies. This shows that the Cunningham think that studies are not very important.
3. Why did Miss Caroline want Burris to go home?
Answer:
He had cooties and Miss Caroline wanted him to go home to wash his hair with lye soap and treat his scalp with kerosene so that he won't spread it to other children.
Questions for Chapter 4 :
1. "As the year passed, released from school thirty minutes before Jem, who had to stay until three o'clock, I ran by the Radley Place as fast as I could, not stopping until I the safety of our front porch." What does this sentence tell you about how Scout feel about the Radley?
Answer:
Scout was still afraid of Boo Radley but she will be more frightened of Boo Radley when her brother was not with her.
2. Why did Jem and Scout awaits the summer with impatience ?
Answer:
Summer is beautiful and warm and makes everything good to eat and sleep. But what excited them the most is that their friend, Dill, will be coming back to Maycomb during the summer.
3.Why did Scout keep quiet even though she thinks that Boo Radley was inside of the house ?
Answer:
She cannot prove that Boo Radley was inside the house and she will be accused of believing in Hot Steams which she was immune to in the day-time.
